Can I deduct Kansas vehicle registration fees and property taxes paid on my vehicles

My 2015 receipts are itemized to include registration fee, title fee, plate transfer fee, DMV modernization fee, County service fee, County primary facility fee, motor vehicle property tax, and lien holder fee. Are any of these deductible on my federal and kansas returns?

Can I deduct Kansas vehicle registration fees and property taxes paid on my vehicles

You are not able to deduct registration fees on your federal return. For fees to be deducted, they must be assessed based on the vehicle's value. The state of Kansas does not assess taxes based on value.

However, you are able to deduct personal property tax on the vehicle. The taxes must be assessed annually and must be based on the value of personal property you own.

For more information, see: IRS Publication 17, Chapter 22, Taxes
